East Asia has witnessed a proliferation of regional initiatives seeking to enhance economic cooperation and integration. From the ROK-PRC Free Trade Agreement to the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, trade liberalization and integration are ushering in a new economic era. Other groupings such as the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation and the ASEAN+3 are also reshaping the institutional landscape. As the world’s economic future shifts inexorably to East Asia, what kind of economic order and architecture will emerge?
