Prof. Lee Shin-wha is a professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations and Director of the Institute for Interdisciplinary Unification Studies at Korea University. She concurrently serves as a member of the Government Performance Evaluation Committee. She held key positions in global security and multilateral diplomacy, including Senior Visiting Fellow at the National University of Singapore’s East Asia Institute (2025), Ambassador for International Cooperation on North Korean Human Rights (2022-2024), Visiting Scholar at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Center for International Studies (2016-2017), Advisory Group Member for the United Nations (UN) Secretary-General’s Peacebuilding Fund (2014-2017), Teaching Professor at Columbia University (2009-2010), Chair’s Advisor for the East Asian Vision Group (2000-2001), and Special Advisor to UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan on the Rwandan genocide (1999-2000). Her recent publications include The United Nations, Indo-Pacific and Korean Peninsula: An Emerging Security Architecture (Routledge, 2024) and South Korea’ Indo-Pacific Minilateral Security amid Great Power Rivalry and “America First Uncertainty” (forthcoming). Prof. Lee earned her Ph.D. in International Relations from the University of Maryland, College Park, and conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University’s Center for International Affairs.
